Tech highlights
Next.js 15 with a Mistral-based model (DeepHermes 3) through OpenRouter for conversational responses and Hugging Face Inference for search, NextAuth for authentication, NeonDB serverless Postgres with Prisma ORM for conversation history and mood logs, and Framer Motion for transitions across a calm, accessible UI.
Results
Shipped a working chatbot with mood tracking and journaling, deployed and free for users to access.
Challenges
Keeping conversations supportive and on-topic with a free-tier hosted model, while keeping latency low enough for natural back-and-forth chat.
